Announcements
Welcome to the North Star Sportsmans Club's announcements page. This page contains important and timely news and announcements of interest to our members and is intended to be a convenient source of information that might otherwise be lost among all the other pages on our web site. Any dates listed below can also be found on the calendar link.
Attention All You Shooters
Beginning Thursday, May 20th, the North Star Sportsmens Club will once again sponsor all youth shooters 17yrs old and younger, to a round of trap and a box of ammo each week for the summer league. The league will run 10 weeks.
An added feature to the normal shooting schedule, the club is offering a trapshooting class for all of the youth to run concurrent with the league. This would be an absolutely great way to introduce your son, daughter, grandson, granddaughter, or even the neighborhood kid to a little more disciplined approach to the game. Each week we will cover a different topic involving trapshooting, beginning with the safe handling of a firearm, to the fundamentals of shooting the game. Our goal is to have "our" kids participate at the Minnesota State Shoot Championships in July. There may be some costs for any extra shooting practice that may take place, especially before the State Shoot.
On May 30th, our club is hosting an ATA shoot just for the youth shooters. Each participant will be shooting at 100 targets, and only competing against those of similar shooting abilities. If you wish to attend this shoot, contact the club at Nssclub.org.
One other goal that's just getting into the idea phase is to have a traveling "TEAM NORTH STAR" competing against other young shooters at neighboring clubs, much like the conference games the school districts have.
Once again, the kids get one round of trap and a box of ammo each week, provided by the club. See you on May 20th.

2009 Year End Newsletter
It's hard to believe that this year is coming to a close so quickly. At this time, the board would like to thank this year's membership for all the support and time the members have put into making this year such a success. Our major expenses this year were the remotes for the skeet fields, auto for the sporting clays course, shipment of birds, and two new outhouses. The club also sponsored a youth trap league that went to the A.T.A. state shoot in Alexandria in which, they performed very well. They were outstanding representatives of the North Star Sportsmens Club and we hope that they will continue to grow and develop their love for shooting sports. Other events the Club was involved and participated in were both the Outdoor and Home Improvement shows at the Walker Community Center. The board also took on a huge undertaking when they updated the Club's By-Laws and Articles of Incorporation. The board decided to move the Annual Membership Meeting from the evening of the Wild Game Feed to the first Saturday after Labor Day. We anticipate that with the changes we have made this year and the goals that the board has set, that next year will be even more successful. Listed below are some upcoming events you need to be aware of.
Memberships:
As of January 1, 2010, your annual memberships are due. Along with your new membership dues, a new gate key will be required. Membership and keys will be available at the club on January 3, 17, February 7, 21, March 7, 21, and also at the Wild Game Feed on April 24. If you have any questions concerning memberships or the new keys, please contact one of the board members. More information is available on the website under announcements.
Wild Game Feed:
Our annual Game Feed is set for Saturday, April 24, 2010 and will be held at the Moondance Saloon. Moondance is located 4 miles east of Walker on Hwy 200. The Game Feed will begin at 5:00 pm and the cost is $50.00 per person, $25.00 for ages 12 - 18, and free for those under 12. The cost not only includes all the great food but also a chance at winning the huge door prize drawn at the end of all the drawings. It's important to remember that the Wild Game Feed is the Club's main fund-raiser so it's important that it continues to be a success. We are also in need of volunteers for not only the night of the feed but also the week before to help get things prepared. If you can volunteer your time and energy, it will be greatly appreciated. Please contact one of the board members if you can lend your services or look for a sign up sheet at the Club.
Winter Shooting:
Prone to cabin fever during those long winter months? NSSC has just the cure for you. Beginning in January, you will have the opportunity to take part in winter shooting at the Club the first and third Sunday of each month (January 3, 17, February 7, 21, March 7, 21). Shooting times start at 12:00 noon and end at 3:00 pm. Weather needs to clear and above 10 degrees. If in doubt, call the club the day of the shoot at 547-3936. The clubhouse will be open and heated although the bathrooms in the clubhouse will not be available for use but there will be an outhouse available.
A.T.A. Shoots:
Again this year, the Club will be sponsoring two registered A.T.A. shoots. One on May 30th and the other on June 13th. We have received a lot of positive responses and feedback from the shooters who have taken part in shooting and visiting our Club. This is also another way for our Club to make some revenue. If you have time and would like to help volunteer, please get in touch with a board member or look for a sign up sheet in the clubhouse.
Archery:
The Club will be sponsoring two 3-D archery shoots again this year. The first one will be held April 17th & 18th and the second will be August 28th & 29th. This is a great family event so if you like archery or your kids have taken an interest in archery, don't miss this event.
Web Site:
Our new web site is up and running so make sure you check it often for Club information and updates at
www.nssclub.org.
Club Openings:
The club will be officially open for regular hours on May 1, 2010.
KEYS
A new lock will be installed on the club's entrance gate. Those that purchase a key with the renewal of their membership, will be issued a new key starting Jan. 1, 2010. If you have purchased or renewed your membership, and have not received the purchased key, it can be picked up after Jan 1st, from
1) The gun club
2) Duane Marty at Walker Ace
3) John Hughes at 371 Rental (Hackensack)
4) Doug Braker at Doug's Gunsmith Shop
GUEST PASSES
Beginning January 1, 2010, all memberships to the North Star Sportsmens Club, will receive two guest passes. These passes will entitle the bearer to one full day of membership privileges. Membership to the club includes reduced rates for shooting trap, skeet, & sporting clays, free use of the rifle & handgun ranges, and free use of the archery target & 3-D ranges.
We hope this will encourage our fellow members to invite those who have not experienced a day at our club. If you have not received the two passes, please see the manager on duty at the club.
New Board Member
Because of up coming commitments on other projects, board member Harold Brace has requested that the board accept his resignation. His resignation was accepted and the board thanks him for his 1-1/2 yrs as a board member and chairing the committee for the 2009 annual game feed. Following the rules set forth in the club's by-laws (section 4.2), Richard Hanson was unanimously chosen to fill the vacancy until the next membership meeting. Rich is a Walker area business owner and an active member of the club.
